Methodology

Where the numbers come from

Our figures are normalized from published sources, not first-party measurements. Each Cost Index row is a published guide's headline verified cost record: we collect the national low, typical, and high planning bands, check them against multiple cited sources, and publish the band with its provenance. The full methodology documents the process, and every guide lists its sources.

Data last updated: 2026-10-22. We re-verify figures on a rolling basis and date every review.

Usage

How to cite and use our work

  • Citing a figure: link to the specific cost guide or to the Cost Index page, and name "HouseholdDecors" as the source. Example: "typical installed cost $2,800 (HouseholdDecors 2026 Cost Index)".
  • Citing the spread ranking: link to /cost-index/estimate-spread and describe the metric as an estimate spread, not price volatility. The page's limitations section must travel with any serious citation.
  • Embedding the widget: keep the "Cost data by HouseholdDecors" attribution visible. See the embed page for the code and terms.
  • What we ask: nothing beyond accurate citation. If a figure looks wrong, tell us through the contact page and we will re-verify it.
